Guideline for Lab Report & Assessment

The lab report should consist of the following main bodies:
1. Abstract
2. Introduction
3. Results and discussion
4. Conclusions
5. References

Do not include the followings in your lab report:
1. Experiment procedures
2. Introduction part that is similar to what is written in the experiment manual

The lab report MUST be written using the Excel file provided in your Spectrum only. Visit your lab course Spectrum and look for "Lab report file" to download the file.

In general, the lab report must be written in English language only.

A lab report example can be found in your lab course Spectrum under "Lab report example."


**Lab Report Submission Deadline**

For lab report submission and deadline, please refer to Guidelines for Students under Lab Report Submission section.



***Assessment guidelines***

Lab reports are assessed based on the new Lab Report Rubrics.

Marks deduction will be made:

  1. For late report submission (after Week 14 every semester)
  2. If there are 2 reports which are exactly the same (word by word)
  3. If there are certain portions in a lab report similar with other lab report
  4. If some questions in a lab manual are not answered in the lab report

The maximum marks are as follows:

The total marks of all experiments in each lab course will be calculated based on 100% weightage.


The marks for each experiment will be given based on the followings:


 Lab session

Lab report 




Will be given based on the rubrics

0 mark will be given

Not attend


0 mark will be given

Not attend

Not submit

0 mark will be given


The above table indicates that for marks to be awarded for an experiment, students must attend the lab session AND submit the lab report.
